"Well you're never going to get nothing for free are you?"

Never a truer word spoken. That's why you paid for your wife.

Capitalism will never collapse because homosapiens are hardwired to look free themselves and their own first.

Want something from me or my tribe?
ooh that's gonna cost ya...

Well you're never going to get nothing for free are you?

Re: If capitalism collapses what will replace it?
Capitalism can be good for improving people’s quality of life, but it is innately bad in a crisis, because the whole machine of capitalism depends on profits. If there is no chance of profits being made, the system comes to a screeching halt. If there’s no chance of a profit, you may as well shut the factory down and sack the staff.

People like Clement Attlee grew up in an era when crises like the Spanish flu, the World Wars and the Depression were the norm. It was the post-War generations that assumed that things like depression and pandemics didn’t happen any more. But they do and they always will.

“It is health that is real wealth of the nation and not pieces of gold and silver.” — Mahatma Gandhi

“There must be something rotten in the very core of the capitalist social system which increases its wealth without diminishing its misery” – Karl Marx

Capitalism fails in the end because the concepts of money, scarcity, jobs, employment, companies, etc ... are all arbitrary relatively recent human constructs. These are useful in a world where scarcity exists and humans are forced to work for basic survival. Eventually they will run their course as will capitalism. Nothing lasts forever including the vaunted cultures and eternal religions of many. Human constructs in the end are always replaced hopefully with something better - Jeff Ronne

After years of ill health, capitalism is now in a critical condition. Growth has given way to stagnation; inequality is leading to instability; and confidence in the money economy has all but evaporated. – Wolfgang Streeck

Re: If capitalism collapses what will replace it?
I'm not entirely sure making higher earners contribute more and equalling income is not the same thing looked at from on the one hand the perspective of the state treasury and on the other that of the individual earner. Anyway, most of the socialist ideology around the issue is couched in terms of righting income differences by political means.

Whatever.

Re: If capitalism collapses what will replace it?
Progressive taxation isn’t meant to even out income differences so it’s not the equivalent of equal pay.
It’s meant to make those who are more able to contribute pay more.

I noticed one of the Ministers at a briefing this week was asked whether the government had considered a global basic income scheme and he almost had a heart attack

Re: If capitalism collapses what will replace it?
I've met some great capitalists who have a distinctly socialist world view and while I'd always take their advice on running a business and handling money, I'd never dream of putting their socialist "principles" into practice in my firm any more than they would in theirs.

So don't I ask them why they think a socialist policy like progressive taxation intended to even out income differences works at a national level when they'd never dream of applying equal pay in their company. They only get into a strop.

The opportunities to make a better life have always been there, just that few people ever learn how, Most of us expect to be a wage slave until we are too old to work, but it doesn't need to be like that.

One hopes that not everyone will go back to the robotic capitalist conveyor belt routine that so many are indoctrinated in. If you're happy with that then fine but hopefully lots of people will have found out how good it is to grow vegetables, read books and learn the names of flowers.

Hopefully this is lots of people's Reginald Perrin moment.

Only when a state can't raise enough wealth/money to meet it's debt repayments will a true shitstorm hit civilisation.

The top 1% will do all it can to hang onto what it has, even if it has to reduce to a top 0.5% or less by trimming off a few of it's own.

Re: If capitalism collapses what will replace it?
People really are falling to pieces, aren’t they?

Capitalism will survive, perhaps in a different form. Perhaps in a better form. The Spanish influenza may have contributed to a depression in 1921-22, but the world economy recovered.

The pandemic has largely been mismanaged, but people will start doing the right things once they’ve run out of all other options. Same as they always do.

Re: If capitalism collapses what will replace it?
More of the same ie Totalitarianism . Capitalism has already collapsed, in just 6 weeks.

Once the masses realize they have been impoverished by a con, then the real trouble starts. The State will try to exercise more control and the powers that be in collision with the media will continue to spew fear and propaganda, in an attempt pit individual against individual.
The Lemmings against those with a brain.

The States instruments of control ( vaccination, app/social media tracking, cashless society, propaganda etc will go into overdrive in attempt to keep a lid on it).

From there, the individual rises up against the Corporate State (which pays no tax)that have colluded with the Governments, whilst the individuals current pension or any hope of a future pension goes up in smoke. Those that do work will be taxed heavily and pursued for any hidden assets. (Just ask the Greeks)

The final nail in Government/Capitalism and precursor to war will be food inflation and worldwide poverty followed by or maybe before, the collapse of the world Government debt market.

That will be the point when even the thickest Lemming will realize what the instrument of the State has done.

From there begins the rise of the individual as the whole world resets. Welcome to the world of barter, collectives and a new world order.

I reckon some of this is within a year and the most I give Governments and the instruments of the State is 10.
